There were some great early games in the NFL’s Week three including a shootout in Washington between NFC East foes, a comeback for the Cowboys, and the Raiders and Jaguars playing like the Raiders and Jaguars.
There will be plenty to digest from this week’s games including injury impact, new sleepers emerging, and the competition for top spot in each division, but let’s take a quick look at the top performers from the early games as we enjoy the rest of a jam-packed Sunday of football.
Andrew Luck-QB-Indianapolis Colts
Luck shredded the Jaguars throwing for four touchdowns and an impressive 370 yards. Indianapolis dismantled their division foe on their way to their first win of the season. Luck is a safe QB1 going forward.
Nick Foles-QB-Philadelphia Eagles
Foles was knocked around, battered, but ultimately unbeaten as he led the Eagles to a huge win in Washington to improve to 3-0. Foles finished with three TD’s and 325 yards while battling through a multitude of bruising hits
Kirk Cousins-QB-Wahington Redskins
For at least one week, all the Kirk Cousins love appears to be merited. In a narrow 37-34 loss to the Eagles, he threw for 427 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw a critical interception on one of the Redskins last drives of the game, but he still had a strong showing for his first start of the season.
Maclin was the receiver Foles targeted the most finishing with 154 yards on eight catches and the fourth-quarter TD that proved to be the difference. Maclin is a strong WR2 every week and when the games get high-scoring he has WR1 potential.
Jennings turned in a huge game to help the Giants get their first win of the season against the visiting Texans. He finished the game with 176 yards on 34 carries and scored his second rushing TD of the season.
Although the Rams couldn’t hold on against the Cowboys, Davis finished with good numbers throwing three touchdowns and 327 yards although his two interceptions proved to be costly. Davis showed some promise taking on the Dallas defense and will be worth a look in two-QB leagues going forward.
The Colts D was in a place to succeed and came through against the struggling Jacksonville offense forcing three turnovers, returning an interception for a touchdown, and picking up four sacks while holding the Jags to just 17 points (most of which came in garbage time). The Colts aren’t a weekly defense consideration, but whoever is playing the Jags is a nice spot start option.
Garcon only had one catch last week, but he bounced back in a big way with 11 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown in the Redskins shootout loss to the Eagles. Garcon is a solid WR2 with this kind of WR1 upside.
Jackson got his revenge on his former Eagles teammates going for 117 yards on his five catches including a long TD. Jackson will continue to be boom-or-bust since he relies on long plays, but showed he can step up for his new team.
Murray continued his hot start to the season putting up his third straight contest with 100 yards and a touchdown. In this one, he rushed for exactly 100 yards while adding 31 more on four catches.
It was a quiet early slate of games for tight ends in general, with Gronk putting up the best line even though it wasn’t all that impressive even by his standards. He caught his second touchdown of the season as part of his three catches for 44 yards.
