Granted it took Chad Henne having back-to-back awful games as the teams starting quarterback, the Jaguars have made the right move in regards to what they can do this season and the future.
Playing his first NFL snaps, Bortles showed some promise despite throwing two interceptions against the Indianapolis Colts. The third overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft completed 14 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns, one being this beautiful fake-snap near the goal line.
Unless Bortles defies all expectations, the Jaguars won’t be good this year. As of now they’re 0-3 on the season. Even with the AFC South playing poorly (the Texans currently lead the division at 2-1), it’s unlikely this team can keep up with the Colts whom are the division favorites.
But they’re pushing their investments development and get a first-hand glance of how he looks in real-time action as well as what they’ll need to do to better improve the supporting cast around him.
And that within itself is a win-win.
