Blake Griffin Wants to Be a Bull (No, Not That Kind)

Sorry to get your hopes up, Chicago fans, but we’re not talking about your kind of Bull. Current Los Angeles Clippers All-Star power forward Blake Griffin is happy right where he is, which happens to be in a new-ish home on the coast in southern California from which he sat down for an interview with GQ. In it, Griffin laid waste to English idiomatic expression, turning the “He’s like a bull in a china shop” simile on its horned head.

From GQ, with a tip o’ the hat to Russ Bengtson for bringing this up on twitter (the interview includes a couple of NSFW questions that involve naughty words):

"What was it that Klay Thompson said before the playoff series? That you were a “bull in a china shop”? Bull in a china shop, yeah. But the thing about that is, it depends on who you are. If you’re the bull, being a bull in a china shop is not a bad thing. If you’re the china, it’s a bad thing. So I want to be the bull. I don’t want to be the china. Does off-the-court stuff factor into it? Like the fact that you do commercials? Probably. For some people, I don’t know, probably. I mean, when I see a guy doing a commercial, I don’t care. It’s not like I see Kevin Durant in a commercial, I’m like, “Psshh, this guy!"

There are a wide range of topics covered here, including Griffin’s reaction to the initial reaction when he made comments concerning his view on creationism back in April. The full interview deserves your readership; it’s Blake having fun and answering questions about life as a superstar and the perception that’s built up around him. And Griffin gets a little philosophical to start, too.

"The house, he says, was mostly finished when he found it, though he’s had a few alterations made. “Downstairs there was gonna be a wine cellar, but we made it into a big trophy-case room.” He pauses for a moment, and together we contemplate wine and winning. “There’s a metaphor there somewhere,” he says."

Congratulations, world: Blake Griffin is your new Philosopher-King.
