Arcade Fire’s frontman, Win Butler, held his annual charity basketball, Pop vs Jock in Montreal this past Saturday. While the game featured musicians like Butler, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon it also had San Antonio Spurs forward, Matt Bonner, coaching a team featuring former NBA players Royal Ivey, and Brian Scalabrine.

Bonner was well suited for this role as his alter ego “Coach B” has had plenty experience “coaching.”

The game was an entertaining affair as the Montreal Gazette recapped:

"With the game underway, Team Jock jumped to an early 8-2 lead before Butler sank a 3-pointer, followed by a blocked shot and awkward but effective layup to keep it close; but Team Jock was hot and went up 20-11, narrowed to 27-22 at the quarter.Butler’s side started strong in the second quarter, fast-breaking its way into the lead, which it stretched to 57-40 by the half, topped off by another Butler 3-pointer.Back to the game, Team Jock came on strong in the third quarter, erasing Team Pop’s 17-point lead to make it 71-all with one quarter to go. Things were more balanced in the fourth quarter. Former Boston Celtics power-forward Brian Scalabrine led the charge for a surging Team Pop, nailing a well-timed dunk and the foul shot to make it 80-75, which soon became 91-75. Butler lifted the crowd with another three-pointer with two minutes left. Team Jock used a full-court press to fight back, but it was too little too late. Team POP won the day, 101-92, leaving a well-deserved smile on Butler’s face."

Bonner and Scalabrine celebrated their victory at an after party where they played drums for LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy:

Bonner may know how to celebrate a win but he has 966 more wins to catch up to his own coach, Gregg Popovich.
