Pete Carroll: Seattle Seahawks ‘played better’ in Week 3 than in Super Bowl
By Cory Buck
The Seattle Seahawks once again beat the Denver Broncos, but it wasn’t nearly as ugly an affair as their previous matchup, when the Hawks bullied the Broncos en route to a 43-8 Super Bowl victory. This time, the Seahawks were at home where they’ve lost only once since the beginning of last season, and still eked out a 23-17 overtime victory over the Broncos. Coach Pete Carroll doesn’t care though. If you ask him, the latest game was the better one for Seattle.

“I thought we played better in this game than we played in the Super Bowl,” Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle radio. “With 13 minutes left in the game, [the Broncos] had three points, and that’s the best offense in the history of ball.”
To add to that point, if the Broncos defense hadn’t made a couple of big plays in that final 13-minute stretch, the Broncos offense may have continued to be held to three points for the rest of the game, or at least long enough to avoid overtime.
A safety and a big pick swung momentum late in Denver’s favor, setting up prime field position for the Denver offense to score one touchdown, which put them in range after another Denver defensive stop for a sterling Peyton Manning-led 80-yard drive to end regulation.
“What drama, though,” Carroll added. “Wasn’t that cool, when you think about it? It was a beautiful football game.”
