The Dallas Mavericks have historically been a offense-heavy team. During their 2011 NBA Championship run, defense was vital thanks to center Tyson Chandler.

Chandler left the Mavericks after that season, accepting a long term contract with the Knicks over Chandler’s large single-season over from the Mavericks.
The Mavericks then made a trade to bring Chandler back to Dallas during June of 2014, and Chandler is ready to instill the defense back into the Mavs like he did during their 2011 run.
“I’m going to make them defend,” Chandler said, via ESPN Dallas’ Tim MacMahon. “We’re going to defend. You can score as many points as you want, but at the end of the day, defense wins championships and that’s what we’re going to do.
“Guys don’t have to be the best individual defenders in the league, but we are going to be a great defensive team. You have to do your assignment. We’re not going to take plays off.”
The Mavericks certainly could use it, ranked in the bottom half of the league in defensive efficiency.
