The Seattle Mariners lost a costly series this past weekend to the Texas Rangers. Their inability to take advantage of games against a last place opponent cost them a precious game in the standings with the final week of the season upon us.

The Mariners now enter the final week of action 1.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals for the second Wild Card spot. The A’s are currently 0.5 games ahead of Kansas City for the top Wild Card spot, while the Cleveland Indians are lurking 3.5 games back and the New York Yankees are hoping for a miracle 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race.
Seattle plays seven games in seven days, leaving them in a position to make the postseason if they play winning baseball. They have a four-game series at the Rogers Centre against the Toronto Blue Jays starting on Monday. Seattle then concludes the season with a three-game series at home against the AL West division champions, the Los Angeles Angels.
The Mariners have their starting rotation lined up such that Felix Hernandez will take the ball if they reach that one game Wild Card round. That is an exciting thought for the Mariners and a frightening thought for the rest of the league, making Seattle a team that everybody will be watching this week as the 2014 regular season races to its conclusion.
