Fantasy Football Week 4 waiver wire pickups: Top 10 WR’s

facebooktwitterreddit

Week 4 is a busy week for fantasy football owners as lineups are scrambled due to injury and some big name receivers on bye weeks.  A.J. Green, Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Floyd, Percy Harvin, and Larry Fitzgerald are just some of the receivers that owners will be without this week.  If you have to hit the waiver wire, check out the list below where you’ll find the top 10 WR to pickup from fantasy football waiver wires.

For the sake of all our waiver wire posts, all players listed are owned in less than 50% of ESPN leagues. If you have a specific question about a WR on your waiver wire or whether or not you should make a move, you can ask always find us at @FansidedFantasy on twitter.  I’ll do my best to answer as many questions as possible as quickly as I can to help you get your roster in the best place it can be headed into this first week of byes.

Here are the top ten available WR on most leagues’ waiver wires heading into week 4:

Week 4 @ Ravens. Kelvin Benjamin. 1. player. 87. Benjamin is the clear top claim if you’re on the waiver wire for a wide receiver this week.  If he’s available in your league, he’s the claim to make almost regardless of team need.  He is a true #1 receiver in the Panthers offense with a top-10 QB (Cam Newton) and a backup QB (Derek Anderson) that has shown he knows how to get him the ball if Cam’s injuries continue to mount.  Benjamin has had two solid weeks in his first three in the NFL finishing with six catches for 92 yards and a touchdown in his debut, struggling a bit in week 2, and putting up a big night against the Steelers on Sunday finishing with 115 yards and a touchdown on six catches.  He’ll continue to be the Panthers biggest receiving threat and a true red zone option.  He has realistic WR2 potential every week the rest of the season with the upside to get even better as the year goes on.  Looking way down the road, he finishes the year with a tasty fantasy football playoff schedule coming off a week 12 bye to take on the Vikings, Saints, Bucs, Browns, and Falcons all of which look like they will be plus matchups for him.. 37.3% owned

The Rams top receiver, Quick caught his first touchdown this last week against the Cowboys and seems close to making at least one more big play every week.  If he can start converting those opportunities his numbers should get a boost after a bye this week which also could bring the return of Shaun Hill.  Quick has at least 60 yards in all three games this year and will continue to get plenty of looks in a Rams offense that badly needs playmakers in their passing game.  He won’t help you this week due to his bye, but if Benjamin is off waivers and your need isn’t immediate, he’s the best week 4 WR pickup. 21.7% owned. Week 4 vs BYE. Brian Quick. 2. player. 51

player. 54. Matthews isn’t the top receiver on his team like the first two options here are, but he plays in the up-tempo Philadelphia offense and flashed his upside this week as he drew more targets than Riley Cooper and scored a pair of touchdowns as part of his eight-catch, 59-yard game on Sunday against Washington.  Matthews has a ton of potential in a good offense and could easily be a weekly play if he gets more looks than Cooper on a regular basis.. 3.7 % owned. Week 4 @ 49ers. Jordan Matthews. 3

53. Hawkins is a solid addition to your receiving corps if you need help further down the line and can overlook his bye this week.  He currently ranks eighth in the league in receptions with 21 and is tied for third in the league in targets with 33 the same number as Emmanuel Sanders and Julio Jones while trailing only Jordy Nelson and Calvin Johnson.  Hawk obviously doesn’t have the upside of those elite WR, but in PPR leagues he should be owned as a #1 receiver who gets a ton of looks from Brian Hoyer.  Josh Gordon is still a long ways away and Hawkins is exactly the kind of high-floor player (player who will almost always get you something) that can help you through your bye weeks.. 15.2% owned. Week 4 BYE. Andrew Hawkins. 4. player

30. Kerley has piled up a total of 19 targets in the last two weeks out of the slot for the Jets.  On Monday Night Football, he ended up with 81 yards and a touchdown on his seven catches while also catching his first touchdown of the season.  With Eric Decker hurt and not assimilated into the Jets attack yet, look for Kerley to keep getting plenty of looks making him worth a look especially in PPR leagues.. 0.7% owned. Week 4 vs Lions. Jeremy Kerley. 5. player

42. Johnson showed he’s not quite done yet stepping up for the ‘Niners in a game where they needed someone to fill in for an injured Vernon Davis.  Johnson converted all nine of his targets for 103 yards against a tough Cardinas secondary.  The problem for Johnson is that there won’t be that many targets to go around on a regular basis.  He has upside if he establishes a regular role, but is just a bench stash at this point unless someone ahead of him in the order of options is out of service.. 5.5% owned. Week 4 vs Eagles. Stevie Johnson. 6. player

3.2% owned. Week 4 vs Jaguars. Eddie Royal. 7. player. 13. Although most fantasy owners would much rather have Keenan Allen, Royal has been targeted at least six times in each of the Chargers three games.  Last week, he converted two of those into touchdowns while catching four passes for 42 yards.  He’ll never pile up huge yards-per-catch average, but he’s worth a look in deep PPR leagues based on his usage and his red zone presence.

Week 4 vs BYE. John Brown. 8. player. 32. Brown has emerged as a weapon in the Cardinals offense that has had to compensate for the loss of Carson Palmer and the decline of Larry Fitzgerald.  Whether Fitzgerald is being schemed out or aging is debatable, but either way Drew Stanton has been forced to throw to Michael Floyd and Brown who is a rookie out of Pittsburg State.  Brown has proven up to the task and especially effective in the red zone.  He has three touchdowns in three games after a pair in week three against the 49ers as he set career-highs in catches (4), targets (6), and yards (52).  He’s a receiver on the rise, but his role could change when Palmer comes back.  At the very least, he’s worth looking at if you can stash someone on your bench through his bye week this week who has future upside.. 1.8% owned

9.0% owned. Week 4 BYE. Mohamed Sanu. 9. player. 56. If the help you need is more long-term than just this week, Sanu is very involved in the Bengals offense which is looking like it could be one of the better units this season.  He threw for a touchdown in week three, his second week in a row contributing as a passer.  He continues to be the Bengals #2 pass catcher behind A.J. Green, but Marvin Jones is also a return which could cut into some of his targets.  Sanu is still worth a look based on his understand of Hue Jackson’s offense, and the fact that he’s such a valuable and versatile piece to a good offense.  He’s a depth-option you can take a flier on in later bye weeks, but isn’t someone you want to rely on for weekly production.

player. 52. Robinson has been one of the best options in the Jaguars offense and was targeted 10 times on Sunday as he made his first NFL start.  The rookie from Penn State caught seven passes for 79 yards and showed some early chemistry with Blake Bortles.  With Bortles under center full time, Robinson has the potential to develop a solid enough connection to be worth owning as Cecil Shorts, Allen Hurns, and Marqise Lee battle injuries.  Robinson has been the most consistent among the group the last couple weeks and is trending the right direction if you need a deep league sleeper.. 0.5% owned. Week 4 vs Chargers. Allen Robinson. 10
