Former RP John Rocker said filming ‘Survivor’ shocked him
By Ed Carroll
John Rocker, the controversial former relief pitcher and sometimes closer who first made headlines throwing smoke for the Atlanta Braves in 1998 and later for racist comments he made regarding New York (and its subway system in particular) in 1999, is competing on the 29th-season of the TV show “Survivor,” said he was shocked by how tough filming the reality show actually was.

Rocker, who also pitched for the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays in his five-year MLB career, has never been afraid to speak his mind (unfortunately), and said while filming the show wasn’t more difficult than he expected, it was worse than he expected going into the filming of the series. The first episode of “Survivor” season 29 airs tonight, but Rocker is not allowed to disclose how far he made it in the popular reality competition.
“Seeing how staged and for-the-camera a lot of reality shows are … I just assumed ‘Survivor’ was going to be the same,” Rocker said in an interview on CBSSports.com. “I was wrong. I was really shocked to find out what you see is what you get.”
Hopefully Rocker kept his opinions about his fellow competitors to himself, but given how Rocker has been known run his mouth in the past, don’t bet on it.
