Geno Smith hasn’t been very impressive this season and has an established quarterback backing him up, in Michael Vick.

However, even with some calling for the Jets to start Vick going forward, Smith isn’t concerned about losing his starting job, according to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News.

"“How much leeway (do I have)? I’m not even thinking about that,” Smith said. “That’s not even a topic of discussion or anything I’ve ever even thought about.”Smith played poorly enough in Sunday’s 27-19 loss to the Bears that some have wondered whether he will have to play well against the Lions to keep his job.“That’s every Sunday in the NFL,” Smith said. “You’ve got to play well. Obviously, we want to get wins.”"

One has to give Smith credit for having the right attitude about the situation. He simply needs to go out there and play to the best of his abilities, rather than concern himself with how long coach Rex Ryan will stick with him.

But the fact of the matter is that Smith needs to start performing better and quickly. He has a 77.0 passer rating and more interceptions than he does touchdowns so far this season. The Jets need to have a strong season for Ryan to keep his own job, so don’t be surprised to see a change if Smith’s play doesn’t improve.
