Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout leaves game with illness
By Ed Carroll
Los Angeles Angels center fielder and AL MVP candidate Mike Trout left Wednesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics in the fifth inning due to a stomach illness.
Though it remains to be seen how serious the illness is for Trout, it’s somewhat encouraging that he isn’t injured and it’s likely that if he misses any time, he could still return in time for the postseason. Trout had a hit and scored a run in the game before he was removed.

The 23-year old outfielder is (again) leading the league in fWAR with 8.0, a full win more valuable than the next-highest total, belonging to starting pitcher Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians. With Josh Hamilton’s status for the postseason uncertain, it’s likely Trout will be relied upon to help provide the majority of the Angels’ offense.
Luckily for the Halos, Trout is a stud, and has slugged 35 home runs this year and entering today’s game, he had a weighted on-base average (wOBA) of .404 for the 2014 season, which is slightly below (!) his career average wOBA of .406. If the Angels had to pick any player they can’t lose, it’s Trout, so hopefully this removal is precautionary.
