The Los Angeles Dodgers will have to finish out their regular season and put away the National League West without the services of Hyun-Jin Ryu. The good news for them is it sounds like they will have Ryu available in the postseason.

Manager Don Mattingly said that Ryu continues to make progress as he works his way back from a sore throwing shoulder. He said Ryu is unlikely to pitch again during the regular season, but that he should be on track to be available for the playoffs. As quoted in the Los Angeles Times:

"“We’re getting close,” said Manager Don Mattingly. “We’re notching off days here, and the fact that he’s not been on the mound isn’t good. But I think we’re pleased with the progress of Hyun-Jin and how he’s doing.“He’s moving forward and not having any complaints afterward. So we’re happy with his progress. But I’d be a little surprised if we saw him before the end of the year.”"

The most understated of the three studs in the Dodgers’ rotation that also includes Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, Ryu has been outstanding once again this season. In 26 starts he is 14-7 with a 3.38 ERA and an 8.2 K/9 mark. As far as third starters go, it is hard to find a team that has an advantage over Ryu and the Dodgers.
