Minnesota Timberwolves’ Ricky Rubio deserves the Stephen Curry contract
The Minnesota Timberwolves and point guard Ricky Rubio have until October 31 to work out a contract or the two sides will have to wait until the offseason when Rubio can become a restricted free agent. Rubio is looking for a max deal but many don’t believe he’s worth that kind of dough (five years, $80 million).

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors would give Rubio the contract the Golden State Warriors gave guard Stephen Curry – four years and $44 million.
"I’d give you something similar to what the Wolves are offering. Reports indicate they’re looking at something in the neighborhood of $42-43MM over four years. I’d go with $44MM, which is what Stephen Curry got. Obviously, Curry signed that deal under extenuating circumstances, since there were legitimate questions about his ankles, but I think Rubio is about equivalent to a compromised Curry at this point. He’s got to prove he can shoot consistently before he’ll be worth max money. Of course, there were major questions about John Wall’s shot, too. Still, I think Wall’s extension was a gamble that paid off, but a gamble nonetheless."
Of course, Curry is one of the biggest values in the league and if he hit the market now, he would command a max contract.
Rubio put up 9.5 points, 8.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 38.1% from the floor, 33.1% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the free throw line last season. Rubio was originally selected by the Timberwolves with the fifth-overall selection in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft. Rubio came over from Spain to join the Timberwolves for the 2011-2012 season. In his career, he’s averaged 10.1 points, 8.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 36.8% from the floor, 32.3% from three and 80.1% from the charity stripe.
