NFL Power Rankings: Division rankings after Week 3
By Brad Rowland
6) NFC East
It was a positive week for the NFC East, and as a result, I will try to keep this upbeat despite my general feelings about the division. The four teams combined for a 3-1 record, and when the only loss comes during a game between two division rivals, that is certainly a success.
Philadelphia and Washington matched up in what was the game of the week for the entire league, and the Eagles proved why they are the class of the group. Still, there are some issues on the defensive side of the ball for Philadelphia, as evidenced by 34 Washington points, and the offensive line is not befitting of a team that is currently 3-0. On the Washington side, Kirk Cousins looked like a sharp upgrade over Robert Griffin III in Jay Gruden’s offense, but while that is a good sign, I am not utterly convinced that he will be competent throughout the year.
The Dallas Cowboys have a winning record. Let’s just say that I didn’t foresee that sentence existing at any point during the 2014 season, especially after week one, but the Cowboys climbed back from a three-touchdown deficit to upend the Rams on Sunday. Tony Romo still doesn’t look quite right, but he was gutsy in leading the charge, and Demarco Murray may be the best pure runner in the NFL at the moment. The Cowboys have rightfully been blistered for their lack of defensive talent, but Rod Marinelli has performed a miracle with the defensive line, and that is keeping them afloat right now.
Lastly, the New York Giants won a game! And they scored 30 points! (I don’t believe… yet)
