Rays manager Joe Maddon speaks out against pace-of-play investigation
By Jack Crosby
Throughout the past few years, one issue that a lot of people have had with the game of baseball is the fact that the games seemingly last forever. With this, Major League Baseball has recently announced that they will form a committee to look into how they can speed things up a bit more.

Well, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn’t see the point.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times recently, Maddon expressed his displeasure with the fact that Major League Baseball is making this subject such a high priority.
“I just don’t get it,” Maddon said. “To make the game 15 minutes quicker and think that’s going to make it more attractive, I don’t understand that.”
Oh, and don’t ask him about the proposed idea that a clock be put out on the field, because he really doesn’t like that suggestion.
“To put a clock out there is really an abhorrent thought.” Maddon said.
Now what makes the comments from Maddon even more interesting is that his team is one of the teams that are part of the problem. The Rays play the slowest games of anyone else in the league, averaging three hours, 12 minutes and 40 seconds.
But also, Maddon may have a point. Any changes that can be made may only knock off about 15 minutes or so, which is a difference that not a lot of folks will probably be able to tell if implemented.
