Derek Jeter is getting ready to play his last major league baseball game at Yankee Stadium. Tonight, when he steps off the field against the Baltimore Orioles, his Yankees legacy will be nearly cemented. In 2014, however, the support has been there all season long. ESPN is reporting that concluding the 2014 season, Jeter’s number 2 jersey will be the best-selling in baseball.

Despite being in his 20th season, and an old man in relation to some of the young stars of today, Jeter has watched his legacy spike his jersey sales in 2014. Not only will Jeter go down as having the best jersey sales this season, but it looks as if he will top the all-time jersey sales list as well.
Since his call up, Jeter has been a banner carrier for Major League Baseball and a star for the New York Yankees. The Captain cemented his legacy with his continued greatness at one of the prolific positions in the sport.
While many have disliked the Yankees over the years, Jeter has been a person of gravitation. Despite a quick bit of ignorance by Keith Olbermann earlier this week, the baseball world has praised Jeter throughout his final year on the diamond.
Jersey sales aside, when Jeter steps away following the conclusion of an away series at none other than Fenway Park over the weekend, baseball will lose an icon. Despite the influx of talent coming into Major League Baseball, we may never see another Jeter.
Here’s to you Captain.
