In case you hadn’t heard, Derek Jeter’s final game at Yankee Stadium was tonight and all of New York seemed to come out for the occasion. There have been a handful of great Yankees in the storied history of the franchise, but there have been few as beloved as Jeter has been.

Some may even say he’s the greatest Yankee to have ever played, and while there are valid counterarguments to that, there’s no denying what Jeter has meant to the city, it’s fans or the franchise. In true so-cheesy-it’s-perfect fashion, Jeter ended his final game in Yankee Stadium in the only way he really could have.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the game tied, Jeter hit a walk-off single to win the game for the Yankees.
The cliche is that you couldn’t have scripted a moment like that — and you really couldn’t have. There were jokes when the Orioles tied the game that Jeter would win it, but no one thought he actually would.
But Jeter isn’t your typical baseball player and he’s leaving behind a very untypical career. It’s one that has held Yankees fans at true highs and crushing lows but this sendoff to those who cheered him on will go down as one of the greatest moments in Yankees history.
