Keys to Victory

The Detroit Lions had a great win in week one where they worked efficiently on offense and defense stomping on the New York Giants 35-14. That needs to be their blue print to win the rest of the season. In week two they showed no characteristics of their week one win in a huge loss to Carolina 7-24. In week three, Detroit showed a little more. Their defense was unstoppable in a 19-7 victory over Green Bay. Now, they need to get their passing game involved and against the Jets is a great place to do it. A weak set of defensive backs will limit the Jets, so if the front seven doesn’t get to Stafford, Calvin Johnson could have a career day.

For the New York Jets it’s all about stopping the pass and forcing turnovers on a Lions squad that tends to turn it over. They had three turnovers in week two and in week three and if the Jets can continue to force turnovers, then they’ll stand a chance. Detroit has done a great job this year at stopping the run, but the Jets need to get Chris Johnson involved and beating defenders on the outside for big gains. Detroit also has a weak secondary, so Geno Smith is going to need to find his targets especially deep down the field.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: DET -1.5
O/U: 45.0

Prediction

The Jets have lost two straight games to NFC North opponents and it’s about to happen again. Detroit has too much talent on both sides of the ball to lose to a team like the Jets who just aren’t quite all the way back yet. Detroit stops the running game once again, and Stafford nods three touchdowns and no interceptions. It may be tough, but the Lions are going to win and easily beat the 1.5 point spread.

Final Score: Detroit Lions 31, New York Jets 16
