Saturday has some cracking EPL action for you to look forward to, with two local derbies bringing to the fore the fiercest rivalries in English football. None of the four sides have had it all their own way at the start of the season and will be looking for three points and bragging rights heading into these hotly-contested clashes. Expect goals, red cards and passion!
SAT 27 SEP
Liverpool v Everton – 07:45
The Merseyside Derby is a highlight of the English Premier League season. Always an emotional affair, recent meetings between the sides have been thrilling. With neither side looking particularly convincing so far this season, it could be another high-scoring contest with both teams looking to kick-start their season.
Liverpool lie in 11th place in the Premier League table, having won 2 and lost 3 of their opening EPL games. They have missed the presence of prolific goal scorer Daniel Sturridge up front and there are thoughts that he may return from injury in this game, which Liverpool fans will welcome.
Everton have endure a similarly difficult start to their campaign. Exiting the Capital One Cup and losing last weekend makes this Merseyside derby all the more important, as they will be desperate not to lose three on the bounce and fall further down the EPL table.
Prediction: 2-1 Liverpool
Arsenal v Tottenham -12:30
The other big derby that fans of both sides locate when the fixture list is announced, the North London derby represents a huge rivalry between two sides who are enemies. This game at the Emirates is sure to be full of passion and it is not unusual for that passion to lead to a physical encounter.
Arsenal seemed to be finding their feet this season before their shock loss the Southampton in the Capital One cup on Tuesday. Nevertheless, their Premier League form has been improving and new boy Alexis Sanchez looks to be the real deal. Injuries have once again plighted their start to the season, but look for Danny Welbeck to make an impact in his first North London derby.
Tottenham have struggled this season, but could their win against Nottingham Forest be the turning point to find form in the EPL? They need one of their strikers to start firing and it would be typical for former Arsenal player Emmanuel Adebayor to stoke the flames with a derby goal.
Prediction: 3-2 Arsenal
