For those of you that don’t know, ESPN College Football Challenge is the closest you can get to college fantasy football on ESPN. You get to comprise a roster of two quarterbacks, two runnings backs, two wide receivers, a team kicker, and a team defense. The scoring is very similar to NFL scoring.

Last week I have a lot of people that scored average numbers, but none that put up spectacular ones like Amari Cooper did. With Cooper and Sterling Shepard both off this week, all of us will have to look elsewhere for points at wide receiver.
Quarterbacks:
Tommy Armstrong, Nebraska: Illinois gave up 36 fantasy points to Texas State’s Tyler Jones last week. While I don’t expect 40 from Armstong, high 20’s is a great possibility, even with Abdullah also running wild. And that fact that only one of the top seven scorers so far this year is active this week, Armstrong should be a good play. You can roll with the only other one (Washington State’s Connor Halliday) if you want, but I’m not sure I trust him on the road against a pretty good Utah team.
C.J. Brown, Maryland: I’m rolling with Brown again because Indiana has allowed more than 25 fantasy points to quarterbacks in every game so far. Brown will likely keep that streak alive. If this is not risky enough for you, Tyler Murphy against Colorado State is another good option, but the Rams did a good job of limiting Sefo Liufau of Colorado, who is a similar player. Brown seems like a safer bet to me, but Murphy may have more upside.
Running Backs:
Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin: He might not run as wild on South Florida as he did on Bowling Green, but can you really afford to take the chance that he won’t?
James Conner, Pittsburgh: Akron is in my bottom five (again). Sure, Pitt will likely lift Conner in the third quarter, but there is a good chance that he will have 200 yards by then. I’m expecting a slightly bigger day from Conner and from Gordon than Abdullah. And I like to go against the grain a bit. Abdullah is almost 50% owned now. I’m going to try and gain points with two other great options.
Wide Receivers:
Nelson Spruce, Colorado: No matter how much the Ralphies may struggle on offense in any given week, Spruce always 20 or more points. Against a Cal secondary that Arizona State scorched, Spruce could have an even bigger game than usual.
Tony Lippett, Michigan State: He has five touchdowns in three games. He is option A, B, and C when the Spartans decide to pass.
Kickers:
Duke: Miami might be able to stop Duke touchdown drives and hold them to field goals, but as usual, kickers are a crapshoot. Duke is the only top ten kicking unit in scoring that I am comfortable with throwing out there.
Defense:
LSU: It’s a toss up between LSU and Penn State this week. Penn State gets a Northwestern team that is really struggling on offense. LSU gets a New Mexico State that hasn’t been any better. I’m going with the athletes of LSU to bring home a touchdown!
Stay tuned for my odds and predictions for this weekend’s games!
