Arizona Diamondbacks fire manager Kirk Gibson

Tony LaRussa wanted to bring in his own guy, that’s been apparent for a while, and Gibson was the only thing standing in the way. Gibson is now no longer standing in the way of La Russa getting the guy he wants on the bench.
According to multiple reports including Fox Sports insider Ken Rosenthal, the Diamondbacks have fired manager Kirk Gibson.
A few weeks ago there were growing rumblings that the Diamondbacks would fire Gibson if he didn’t turn the season around — and he didn’t. His failure to rally the team in the final six weeks of the season has now cost him his job.
Gibson is baseball royalty of sorts, and he’s going to land another job this winter. He likely won’t get another managerial job in 2015 but a job as a hitting coach or even as a manager in the minors could be his path to one day return as manager.
