As you may know, the Houston Astros are in need of a new manager. After firing Bo Porter on September 1st they have bgun the process of finding a new skipper for the 2015 season. Their first call apparently was to get permission to interview Phil Nevin.

That permission has been granted and Nevin will reportedly interview for the job. Nevin is currently the manager of the Triple-A affiliate for the Diamondbacks, the Reno Aces and took over the job last November.

Nevin has also been the manager of the Tigers Triple-A affiliate for the three years prior to taking the Reno job, and his name has been tossed around the baseball community as one of the next minor league managers who could soon get a shot in the big leagues.

Nevin has quite a history with the Astros, he was even drafted by the organization with the number one overall pick in the 1992 draft. He played in Houston for only one season before being traded to the Detroit Tigers but did have a solid big league career lasting twelve seasons. Also, interestingly enough, Nevin was chosen by the Astros after they decided to pass on drafting a young shortstop named Derek Jeter. You may have heard a thing or to about that guy recently.
