Bobby Abreu announces retirement from Major League Baseball
40-year-old Bobby Abreu has finally decided to retire from Major League Baseball. Abreu has played for six MLB teams and his career will end with him last playing for the New York Mets.

Abreu was a two-time All-Star, a Gold Glove Award winner and a Silver Slugger Award winner. Abreu, for his career, has a .291 batting average, 288 home runs, 1,363 RBI and 400 stolen bases. Abreu’s career lasted for 16 seasons and he is known as one of the most disciplined hitters to ever play the game.
Abreu also won the home run derby in 2005.
He did it all during his tenure in MLB, which is what made him so special. Abreu not only prided himself on his hitting, but also he loved being known as a great defensive player as well.
The next honor that Abreu may hear next is being inducted into the hall of fame. Abreu is definitely in consideration to have his name in Cooperstown and it will be interesting to see if he finds himself in the Hall of Fame sometime in the future.
