Cincinnati Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with what was termed a “mild” concussion, and the Rookie of the Year contender’s status for the weekend is up in the air, but he will sit out tonight’s game:

That’s Chris Heisey taking over for Hamilton in center field for the Reds tonight, and Reds manager Bryan Price said after Thursday’s game that Hamilton still had not yet gone through the series of concussion tests required in order to be cleared for a return to action. Hamilton suffered the concussion robbing the Brewers’ Ryan Braun of a home run.

Hamilton is slashing .250/.292/.355, and has 56 stolen bases on the season. The 24-year old rookie has been worth 3.3 fWAR, but almost all of his value is in his defense or baserunning. He’s hit six home runs, and his weighted on base average (wOBA) is .287.

Even if Hamilton’s year is over, he’s likely the favorite for National League Rookie of the Year, with the only other serious contender being New York Mets’ starting pitcher Jacob deGrom. The Reds have been eliminated from playoff contention, so Hamilton won’t play unless he’s ready to go.
