It’s no secret that the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks aren’t the best of friends. Whenever these two teams play it seems to have a boost in anticipation and the energy in the building is always electric. New Nets coach Lionel Hollins wasted no time in starting up the war of words between these two teams.

Hollins was a guest on the radio show ‘Boomer and Carton’ on Wednesday morning and he took a shot at the Nets’ cross-city rivals. Co-host Carton started it off by saying, “If the Nets beat the Knicks, I’ll let you eat at Boomer & Carton’s Kitchen for free.” Hollins then responded. “I guess I’ll be eating free all year,” he said.
No Knicks player or coach has responded yet, but don’t expect those comments to go unnoticed. The first meeting between the Knicks and the Nets this season is on November 7 at Barclays Center. Bragging rights are always on the line when these teams play and being in the same conference makes the games that much more meaningful.
The Knicks may use Hollins comments as an added boost to try and beat out the Nets not only in head to head match-ups, but also in the standings. The Knicks won three out of the four head-to-head meetings against the Nets last season, but that had no implications on the standings. The Nets made the playoffs and the Knicks didn’t. The rivalry between these two teams should be fun this season and Nets coach Lionel Hollins wasted no time in starting things up.
