Danny Ferry’s racist comments about forward Luol Deng during a conference call about free agents was one of the uglier stories to emerge during the 2014 NBA offseason.

However, Deng is ready to move on from the whole ordeal created by the Atlanta Hawks general manager, telling reporters at Miami Heat media day that he forgives Ferry, who said Deng had “a little African in him.”

It’s a noble move, but few should be surprised to see it coming from a guy like Deng, who is one of the more respected players in the NBA. Deng released a universally-lauded statement on the situation earlier in September.
An excerpt of it:
"“I’m proud to say I actually have a lot of African in me, not just “a little”. For my entire life, my identity has been a source of pride and strength. Among my family and friends, in my country of South Sudan and across the broader continent of Africa, I can think of no greater privilege than to do what I love for a living while also representing my heritage on the highest stage. Unfortunately, the comment about my heritage was not made with the same respect and appreciation."
Deng averaged 16.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls. Deng signed with the Heat this offseason.
