If you’re a Bruins fan, you probably like Matt Fraser a whole lot more than you should right about now.

The Boston Bruins are roughly $800k over the salary cap coming into the 2014-2015 season, and still haven’t re-signed two of their biggest breakout players. For a team that currently only has one natural right wing on their roster, this is terrifying- not only can they not afford to re-sign their own restricted free agents, they don’t have enough money to cobble together an offensive lineup mildly devastated in the off-season.
(Yes, Jarome Iginla, we’re all looking at you.)
Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli has already suggested that the solution to both the team’s cap problem and the team’s sparse-looking roster is already floating around in the system- we just aren’t sure who it is yet. Forward Ryan Spooner looks great on the offense, but doesn’t quite have a grasp on his defensive play yet- and the last thing Boston fans want is to see a Jordan Caron 2.0 taking up space on the bench next season. David Pastrnak has been out with a lower body injury anyway, and the team can’t truly rely on any of the top-notch offensive prospects to immediately jump into a top-six role.
Then, of course, there’s Matt “I Score Goals During the Playoffs Like It’s Second Nature To Me” Fraser. He’s been pretty all right this off-season… then, oh yeah, he just did this:
Is it premature to pre-order his jersey? I might just sharpie a t-shirt. Sorry I’m not sorry.
