Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees are playing out the final games of their season against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park this weekend. Both teams are out of playoff contention, leaving the focus squarely on Jeter in his last series ever as a professional baseball player.

To some people it feels odd that Jeter should have to finish his career out away from Yankee Stadium, let alone in front of the crowd of his team’s biggest rival. That said, if there’s something that Red Sox fans are known for more than their hatred of the Yankees, it’s in their investment in baseball history.
They respect Jeter. They appreciate his historic career. They understand that they are participating in a piece of baseball history by watching him play in his final games for the Yankees. That was all apparent in the standing ovation that Jeter received prior to his first at-bat on Saturday.
