Minnesota Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn was flagged 15 yards for unnecessary roughness during last week’s 20-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints when he did his very best Hulk Hogan impersonation while tackling Saints quarterback Drew Brees:

Brees was not amused and gave Munnerlyn a shove.

However, after he was not fined by the NFL for the hit, Munnerlyn

told

the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he was vindicated.

"“I’m kind of excited,” Munnerlyn said. “It was a bad call. They made a mistake.”"

The penalty occurred on the last play of the third quarter. Munnerlyn blitzed from his corner spot and, along with safety Robert Blanton, put Brees on his back … with enthusiasm.

Munnerlyn was flagged because officials believed the takedown happened after the whistle.

"“I didn’t throw (Brees) on his head,” Munnerlyn said. “He landed on his back. They were trying to say the whistle had blown but then we watched on film and the whistle had never blown.“It would have been a legal hit (had there not been the claim of the whistle blowing). That’s why I didn’t get a fine.”"

The penalty still cost the Vikings—the Saints got a first down instead of being forced to punt the ball away.
