Jones-Drew was the starting back in Week 1, but Darren McFadden stepped in after his injury. As the every-down back, he carried the ball 34 times for 111 yards and a touchdown. Jones-Drew is expected to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in London.
The San Francisco Chronicle’s Vic Tafur says he expects the Raiders to split carries among the two backs.
McFadden didn’t run the ball particularly well in his fill-in time, but Jones-Drew didn’t look great as the starter in Week 1 either (Nine carries for 11 yards). More than likely, it doesn’t really matter who runs the ball behind that offensive line.
The Raiders rank second-to-last in the NFL in rushing offense with just 193 yards and one touchdown in three games. Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ run defense ranks in the middle of the pack, giving up a 15th best 4.0 yards per carry. More than likely, Miami takes the edge in the running game this Sunday and forces rookie quarterback Derek Carr to throw the ball.
