Derek Jeter had the perfect storybook ending to his career in Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, hitting the walk-off opposite field single to win his last game in the Bronx. A perfect, typical opposite field swing that capped off one heck of an emotional night for the Captain. Before all the dramatics, however, we all could hear the Yankee faithful chanting Jeter’s name throughout the eighth and ninth innings.

Well as perfect as the ending in Yankee Stadium was, there was still a little matter of a season-ending series in Boston that would be the actual last games of Jeter’s career. And the Boston fans made to sure to get in on the Jeter farewells last night when something happened that many would think impossible inside the walls of Fenway Park.
The crowd slowly but surely started chanting “De-rek Je-ter.” You can watch the video below and I dare you to try and fight off the goosebumps. That chant at that park, given the history and rivalry through the years, will give you all of the chills.
Lots of people, including myself, thought that after Thursday nights fairy tale ending that Jeter should just call it a career and not play the last series in Boston. However, Jeter stated that he would play in Boston in some capacity out of respect for the Red Sox and out of respect for the rivalry. Jeter, however, won’t play shortstop during the last series.
