Today marks Derek Jeter‘s final game as a professional baseball player. The New York Yankees are at Fenway Park taking on the Boston Red Sox.

While it might feel a bit odd at first that Jeter’s final games are happening in the home park of his team’s biggest rival, it is fitting in a different sense as well. Jeter is one of the greatest players of all time, the kind of player whose name will be included with some of the biggest figures in baseball history. It is pretty special for him to finish out his career at a historic location like Fenway Park.
As part of their ceremony to honor Jeter, the Red Sox took advantage of the old charm of their park. They used the manual scoreboard on the Green Monster in left field to pay respect to Jeter before the final game of his career.
That is a fitting and classy tribute to Jeter as we all say farewell on Sunday.
