For a fleeting moment in the first half of their game against the USC Trojans in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Oregon State Beavers might have thought they were going to put a scare into the 18th ranked team in the country. A special teams touchdown made it look like Oregon State was ready to go blow for blow with USC, but that proved not to be the case as the Trojans cruised to an easy 35-10 victory.

That special teams play, a 97-yard kickoff return from Ryan Murphy, ended up being the only touchdown for the Beavers in this game. A second quarter field goal gave Oregon State a brief 10-7 lead, but it was all USC from that point on. Cody Kessler and company ran off 28 straight points in a commanding victory, stringing together multiple long drives in the process and just proving to be too much for the Oregon State defense.

USC did their most damage on the ground, averaging over 5.0 yards per rush attempt in this game. Javorious Allen ran for 115 yards and a touchdown while Justin Davis chipped in another 82 yards and a TD as the Trojans simply gashed the Oregon State defense running the ball. Through the air, Kessler threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

Sean Mannion and the Beavers were stifled all night on offense, with Mannion averaging a woeful 3.8 yards per completion. His final line: 15-for-32 for 123 yards and two interceptions.

Also, there were penalties. Lots and lots of penalties. 13 for 107 yards for the Beavers, 14 for 124 yards for the Trojans.

All in all, USC was predictably too much for Oregon State to handle, and they earned the easy victory at home. The Beavers and the Trojans are both now 3-1 on the season.
