The Texas Rangers plan to interview interim manager Tim Bogar, respected pitching coach Mike Maddux, and Steve Buechele, manager for the Rangers Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock, as the team begins its search for a full-time replacement for former manager Ron Washington. Washington resigned suddenly on September 5, and later admitted the resignation was related to his marital infidelity. Texas will reportedly interview a few external candidates as well.

The Rangers have been rocked by injuries this season, but the team performed well in its 21 games under Bogar, and went 13-8 down the stretch. It’s not clear which external candidates the Rangers would be considering right now, but Texas has two strong internal options between Bogar and Maddux. Maddux is well-regarded as a pitching coach, and might get interviews for other managerial openings. Maddux could presumably stay in Texas as pitching coach if Bogar were to get the permanent job as Rangers skipper.

Buechele, who has managed for six years in the Rangers minor-league system, also interviewed for the same job opening with the Houston Astros. The Astros fired Bo Porter earlier this month and have played under interim manager Tom Lawless since.

Washington managed the Rangers for eight seasons, and is the only Rangers manager to lead Texas to the World Series.
