Arizona Cardinals’ Tommy Kelly: New England Patriots care more about money than winning
Current Arizona Cardinals and former New England Patriots defensive lineman Tommy Kelly asked for his release from the Patriots before the season. Kelly believed he would have his playing time limited so he couldn’t reach his incentives.

Now, Kelly is questioning the Patriots’ commitment to winning.
“I saw the situation and I realized I probably wouldn’t be there,” Kelly told Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com. “I couldn’t take busting my tail every day getting to a game and them taking me out of the game for someone who I know isn’t better than me, because he’s a cheaper option. Are we worried about money here? Or are we worried about winning?”
Kelly seems happy with the 3-0 Cardinals.
“I knew if I got the opportunity to play, I could still play in this league at a high level,” Kelly said.
Kelly made 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks in five games for the Patriots last week. The former Mississippi State Bulldog spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Oakland Raiders. He has 448 career tackles and 36.5 career sacks. He has seven tackles this season.
Kelly’s former team is in Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Monday night.
