In 2013, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was off to an outstanding performance and may have been the front runner for the Cy Young Award before he was injured. Buchholz returned from injury late the season helped lead the Red Sox to a World Series title, going four innings in the Red Sox huge game 4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals when it looked like his arm was dead.

Buchholz returned to the mound this year and was a disaster. Although he was able to make 28 starts compared to 16 last season, he went just 8-11 with a 5.34 ERA (He was 12-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 2013).
According to Brian MacPherson of The Providence Journal, Buchholz will be undergoing knee surgery.
"The lone holdover from the Opening Day rotation that Boston manager John Farrell rolled out, Buchholz will undergo a minor procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital on Tuesday to repair the meniscus in his right knee.“It’s been off and on over the course of at least this season,” Boston general manager Ben Cherington said. “It’s not something that’s there all the time. Its symptoms kind of come and go. Given where we are in the calendar, it’s a fairly quick recovery, so let’s just knock it out and he should have a normal offseason.”"
Cherrington downplayed the injury and told reporters the Red Sox are “just trying to be proactive so it doesn’t turn into something bigger.”
