Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau hinted that fans shouldn’t expect rookies Doug McDermott or Nikola Mirotic to be rotation players in their first NBA seasons:
Thibodeau said you don't see championship teams with 2 rookies in rotation. On Mirotic, McDermott: "There will be a period of adjustment."

While it’s not much of a surprise to hear Mirotic won’t get a lot of playing time this season, as he’s considered more of a project and the Bulls have big men in Taj Gibson and free-agent pickup Pau Gasol, the Bulls traded the number 16 and 19 picks in the draft along with a 2015 second-round pick to the Denver Nuggets, who selected McDermott 11th overall.
McDermott was a top offensive player for the Creighton Blue Jays, leading the nation in scoring his senior year. He’s capable of hitting the three-point shot and providing outside shooting, which the Bulls need. Perhaps Thibodeau meant McDermott wouldn’t be in the rotation to begin the year, but it seems like he could certainly help the Bulls right now.
Perhaps McDermott will be able to make an impression on Thibeodeau during the preseason, which could get McDermott some minutes in the early months of the NBA season.
