Speaking at a ‘Williams Warriors’ event on Monday, Williams said that he has a high ankle sprain that will keep him off the field for a few weeks. Given the way that the injury looked when Williams was forced out of action in his team’s week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, it is not surprising that he will be out for a while.
Jeremy Igo passed along the news.
Because Williams announced this bit of news himself at a charity event, none of the usual crack national NFL reporters was able to break this news. That may or may not have bummed them out.
There is nothing official from the team yet. Until there is and until there is a firmer time table for his return, we won’t know for sure where things stand with Williams. Such as these injuries go, his status will also be subject to change. In the meantime, the Panthers will proceed with spare parts at running back as they try to get their season back on track.
Williams has rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries this season.
