Derrick Rose knocked off the rust this summer with Team USA in the FIBA World Cup and left with his health in tact which is more important than his field goal percentage or points per game.

More from Chicago Bulls

After playing in only 10 games last season before having surgery to repair a torn meniscus and missing the entire season before that as he recovered from ACL surgery suffered in the playoffs, the former league MVP realized he will have to face questions about his health as long as he’s playing.

Rose won’t have to return to the form he showed earlier in his career when he led the Chicago Bulls to the best record in the NBA and was named the youngest MVP in league history after the addition of Pau Gasol, Nikola Mirotic and drafting of Doug McDermott.

However, another year lost to injury will change the narrative on the season for the Bulls and the future of Rose who faces a career-defining season in 2014-2015.
