Brown, 63, has been mentioned as a possible candidate at SMU and could be a candidate at a number of programs at the end of the season, but he tells ESPN’s Brett McMurphy he has not been contacted by any schools and if a school wants to talk to him, they will have to wait until December to do so.
"“I’m enjoying working in television at ESPN,” Brown said. “I’ve made a conscious decision to concentrate on this through the fall. I jumped into this [job at ESPN] with both feet. [His wife] Sally and I both made a commitment to this.“I will not make any decisions about my future until December, after I talk with my bosses at ESPN and see if they’re happy with me, and then when I can evaluate my first year on television. ESPN and [ESPN president] John Skipper have been great to me.”"
Brown spent the past 16 seasons in Austin as the head coach of the Longhorns where he won the 2005 national championship against the USC Trojans. He has a 244-122-1 in 30 seasons as a head coach and come December we will know if Brown plans to add to his career record or if he will continue in his second career as a television analyst.
Maybe he will have a bigger role with Lou Holtz saying in the spring that he plans to retire at the end of the college football season or maybe he will be back on the sidelines.
Could the Michigan Wolverines or Florida Gators make a call to Brown in December and give their fans an early Christmas present?
