Hinch was most recently the interim general manager of the San Diego Padres after that team fired general manager Josh Byrnes, but resigned in August. The Astros are expected to announce their decision of a full-time replacement for fomrer manager Bo Porter at a 6:30 p.m. EST press conference.
Hinch became the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks in May 2009, at age 34, and just four years removed from his playing career as a catcher. He lasted barely more than one season in the desert, as he was fired in July 2010 amid reports of a clubhouse revolt. He joined the Padres scouting department later that year before ascending in the front office hierarchy.
Sources: The Astros informed candidates earlier today they wouldn't get the job, including internal ones. Coaching staff is still up in air.

Internal candidates included interim manager Tom Lawless, who could remain on Hinch’s staff. Hinch was interviewed for the Chicago Cubs managerial opening last season, but the job went to Rick Renteria instead. Hinch played in the Majors from 1998 until 2004, mostly with the Oakland Athletics.
