It’s likely that Tim Duncan would take over the center position for the Spurs in Splitter’s absence, and Boris Diaw could fill in at the power forward spot.
Splitter played in 59 games for the NBA-champion Spurs last season, averaging 21.6 minutes a game. Splitter pulled down 363 boards for San Antonio, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. The Brazilian averaged 8.2 points per game and an assist-and-a-half per game as well.
Splitter has spent all four of his NBA seasons in San Antonio. The 29-year old was a late first round pick by the Spurs back in 2007, but his first season wasn’t until the 2010-2011 season. He helped the Spurs beat the Miami Heat for the NBA championship in the Finals in June. San Antonio also has other big men on the roster in Matt Bonner and Jeff Ayres, though neither of those players are close to being as good as Splitter is at the center position.
