Zach Miller had surgery on his ankle during the Seattle Seahawks bye week, according to Ross Jones of Fox Sports.

Jones reports the Seahawks starting tight end will be out “an extended amount of time, but NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that Miller is expected to be sidelined for five-six weeks.

The Seahawks will not be able to place Miller on the injured reserve with a designation to return because the club has used their one on cornerback Jeremy Lane, so Seattle will have to play with a man down for the next month and a half.

Miller isn’t the focal point of the offense after he had 33 receptions for 387 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2013 and has six receptions on seven targets for 76 yards and zero touchdowns for the 2-1 Seahawks.

The Seahawks could go with more multiple wide receiver sets with the loss of Miller, but Luke Wilson and Cooper Helfelt are the other tight ends on the team’s roster and they could promote RaShaun Allen from the practice squad to the active roster if they determine they need another healthy tight end.
