Late Monday night the word came through that many had been expecting, and that was the news that the Oakland Raiders had indeed relieved Dennis Allen of his head coaching duties following Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. The team fired Allen over the phone, ending a run of just over two years with the team for the former coordinator.

It was yet another failed attempt by the team to have a stable coach in place that could bring the organization back to prominence. So with that being said, it would make sense that the team would turn to the one man in this generation that was actually able to pull off that feat, Jon Gruden.
Following the news of the firing Monday night, Ian Rapoport went on NFL Network and noted that there are a lot of eyes in the organization on Gruden, and then he even noted on twitter that this could be the direction the team is looking in.
Yup RT @timkawakami: Allen fired, McKenzie possibly next. Of course Raiders have to check in with Jon Gruden now: http://t.co/XfsirrP9LT

Gruden was the coach of the Raiders from 1998-2001, basically building up the team as one of the perennial contenders in the AFC.
As most people note whenever Gruden’s name is brought up for a coaching job, it might be highly unlikely that he would leave his financially comfortable Monday Night Football gig for a return to coaching. But as Pro Football Talk points out, if the right opportunity were to come along, this tune could change.
"But it remains to be seen whether Gruden is interested in the job. Publicly, Gruden has always insisted that he loves working as a commentator and has a contract that ties him to ESPN for years to come. But few people believe Gruden would turn down the right opportunity to return to coaching."
