The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a terrible season that saw them go 25-57 and landed the seventh-overall pick in the draft. They used that pick on former Kentucky Wildcat’s power forward Julius Randle. Although many around the league are very excited about his future, most think the Lakers are in for another long season.

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders believes the Lakers would be best served by tanking.

"I can’t see the Lakers making the playoffs this season. Maybe they can make it next year, but they would have to attract a star free agent or pull off a blockbuster trade. Otherwise, their best option may be building around young talent. I love Julius Randle’s game and they can keep their 2015 pick if it’s top five, which would land them one of the stars of the stacked 2015 draft class. I know that doesn’t sound great to L.A. fans who are used to being a contender every year, but sometimes teams have to rebuild."

Kennedy makes a great point. The Lakers got a potential star in Randle this year and if they could find another in the top five int he 2015 Draft, they will be in great shape for the future.

Of course, that’s not what the veterans like Carlos Boozer, Jeremy Lin and especially Kobe Bryant, want to hear.
