Did ‘The Truth’ leave the Brooklyn Nets because he felt the Washington Wizards were a better team? Perhaps, though his major reason for leaving was to join forces with John Wall. The former Kentucky guard hasn’t lived up to his lofty expectations though is still an All-Star level talent which Paul Pierce took notice of.
“John is going to make life easier on me,” Pierce stated. “I saw what he was able to do last year. How he helped Trevor Ariza miraculously have another career year. Even though it was maybe a contract year, who knows. (John) definitely made it easier on him. Hopefully I can step in there and get into the right spots.”
Ariza was often used in a spot up shooting role, something Paul Pierce could thrive in. Combine that with the talent on the Wizards roster and the two-year contract (with a player option for the third) offered by the Washington Wizards and it was too great to turn down.
As for the Wizards, not only will Paul Pierce likely replicate what Ariza was able to do for them, they also didn’t have to commit long term money and could be in position to sign Kevin Durant come 2016 because of it.
