The Ole Miss Rebels are two days away from their biggest football game of the season against the Alabama Crimson Tide, however there is a distraction on the way. According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the athletic department is under investigation for rules violations.

In the report it states that the focus of the investigation centers around the football and women’s basketball programs. However, it should be noted that the Ole Miss football program part has nothing to do with the current regime being run by third-year head coach Hugh Freeze.
Ole Miss has yet to receive an official Notice of Allegations from the NCAA and they are currently looking into the matters themselves. This is a route that has proven to work in the past, especially when the Oregon football program was under investigation last year. If you take appropriate action yourselves, the NCAA tends to be more lenient on you.
For future reference, should this lead to anything bigger down the road, the Ole Miss Football program has been punished by the NCAA three times in the past. The last one came in 1994, and they were hit pretty hard.
In the 1994 season, the Ole Miss football team suffered through a one-year television ban, a two-year postseason ban and four years probation. But, again, with them policing themselves as much as they can in this matter, they should be able to avoid anything too harsh.
As more of this becomes available, we will keep you updated on the infractions, as well as what the potential outcome could be.
