Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Redskins

Is it insensitive to call this game the battle of David and Goliath, but without the reassurance of a happy ending for the underdog? Oh well. Washington may have the better record in the two teams’ history of matchups, but it doesn’t look like this week’s game will follow historic precedent. The Seahawks are coming off a well-placed early bye week, and the Redskins still haven’t figured out what to do about their whole quarterback situation. Monday Night Football this week might just be a massacre.

Keys to Victory

The Washington Redskins can’t win this week based off of sheer desperation. The Washington Post cites Trent Williams as saying that the Seahawks are able to be defeated because “nobody’s perfect”, but he’s forgetting about how many flaws his team has right now. A significant chunk of the roster was injured last week, and there’s no guarantee that they can head into this game at full strength. RGIII, as always, seems to be one of those injured players- and in order for Washington to win, they’ll have to count on a somewhat unreliable Kirk Cousins to lead them to victory. I’m not sure this team has a key to victory, because I’m not sure it’s possible at all.

This game is Seattle’s to lose. They will, however, if they underestimate how badly Washington wants to win- going into this game overconfident is a good way to hand the victory over to the lower-ranked team.

Should Seattle play the way we all expect them to, though, expect them to cruise to an easy victory. Their main goals should be to remain focused and avoid injuries- the Dallas Cowboys will be a much more formidable matchup next week, and they can’t afford to lose any players to unnecessary injuries.

Prediction

Last week, I figured that the Baltimore Ravens could exceed expectations and trample Carolina. I have no such delusions about the Redskins; Seattle is going back to the West Coast with another win to their name.

Final Score: Seattle Seahawks: 41, Washington Redskins: 20
