Charlotte Hornets veteran Gerald Henderson has been out of place in years past but a new roster may mean a he’s no longer as expendable as he’s been in the past.
The Charlotte Hornets are in a position to win, as they ditched the Bobcats nickname, added some nice talent this offseason and are ready to win now. Lance Stephenson, Noah Vonleh and P.J. Hairston are looking to improve the team, but there’s already a guy on roster who can help do that.

Gerald Henderson is a guy who the Hornets haven’t been able to utilize in the past, but a winning roster could change all of that. According to Joel Brigham from Basketball Insiders, while the Charlotte Hornets could very well shop Gerald Henderson and get decent return for him, they’re best off keeping him.
"The Hornets really don’t need him as badly as they did a year ago. As far as what they can get, the market is reasonable for shooting guards because there are so few of them, but Henderson isn’t elite. I’d expect him to yield a similar player, maybe a second-round pick or two. The Hornets would be better off keeping him."
Henderson is a player the Hornets can now use in their system as veteran’s are used elsewhere around the NBA. In years past, Charlotte hasn’t been a contending team, but this year they’re looking to make it to the second round of the playoffs — at least.
It’s a lot to ask the Hornets to be better than they are, but keeping guys like Henderson at least gives the team hope that such a thing is possible.
