Here’s some bad news for Orlando Magic fans: Newly-signed power forward Channing Frye injured his knee in practice. Following a MRI, Frye’s injury was diagnosed as a sprained MCL.

Signed over the course of four seasons for $32 million, if Frye is unable to go by the start of the season, this puts a huge dent into whatever the Orlando Magic hoped to do in 2014-15. With Elfrid Payton, Victor Oladipo and Aaron Gordon expected to play a lot of minutes, Frye’s ability to stretch the floor is pivotal to whatever the Magic do on offense — his floor-spacing opens things up for everyone else.

Last season, as a member of the Phoenix Suns, Frye averaged 11.1 points on 37 percent shooting from three.

Despite being injured Frye seems to be in good spirits going forward.

“I feel good. You know, I’m disappointed, but at the same time it could’ve been way worse,” he said. “It could’ve set me back way longer, but thank God it happened now, of any time.”

Frye hopes not to miss any time during training camp while recovering from injury.

If Frye is unable to, forwards Tobias Harris, Aaron Gordon, and Kyle O’Quinn could see an increased role.
